Its institutional lineage is traced to the Syms Free School founded in 1634, making it one of the oldest continuous public education efforts in the United States. The current building at 1491 West Queen Street dates to 1956 and, because of its sprawling floor plan, earned the local nickname the 'Little Pentagon' for its seemingly endless hallways.
