About Cesar Tarrant Middle School

Cesar Tarrant Middle School is a public middle school in the Hampton City Public Schools division, located at 1435 Todds Lane in Hampton, Virginia. The school serves students in grades 6 through 8. It was renamed in 2018 from Jefferson Davis Middle School; the new name honors Caesar Tarrant (c. 1740-1797), an enslaved Hampton boat pilot who served as a pilot for Virginia during the American Revolutionary War and was later granted his freedom by the state in recognition of his service.
