About Hunter B. Andrews PK-8

Hunter B. Andrews PreK-8 School opened in September 2010 as the first new school built by Hampton City Schools in more than three decades. It is named for Hunter Booker Andrews, a Hampton native who served on the Hampton School Board (including as chairman) and represented the city in the Virginia State Senate for 32 years, where he was widely recognized as a champion for public education. The school was constructed on the former site of Dixie Hospital / Hampton General Hospital.
