About Mary T. Christian Elementary School
The school at 2009 Andrews Blvd in Hampton operated as John B. Cary Elementary School until the Hampton City School Board voted on May 19, 2021 to rename it Mary T. Christian Elementary School, effective the 2021-2022 school year. The new name honors Dr. Mary T. Christian, a lifelong Hampton resident, longtime educator, and former Virginia state delegate recognized for her work on the integration of Hampton's public schools. The building, its staff, student body, and NCES identifier (510180000745) all carried over from John B. Cary Elementary to Mary T. Christian Elementary; only the name changed.
