Thoroughgood is a Bayside neighborhood in ZIP 23455 on the Lynnhaven River, named for the Adam Thoroughgood House, the early-18th-century brick house that still stands on Parish Road. The subdivision around it was built from the late 1950s into the 1980s; the homes that closed in the last two years had a median build year of 1977, with the oldest from 1958. Seventeen of 23 recent sales were detached houses, mostly two stories, on lots of nearly half an acre at the median, and six were attached homes in the smaller sections. There is no homeowners association. Thoroughgood Estates is the newer section, and one recent sale was new construction.

Thoroughgood is a family-friendly, tree-covered neighborhood with Independence Boulevard and Pleasure House Road as its edges, the Bayville Farms park and the Chic's Beach shoreline nearby, and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek about three miles away. Recent sales were zoned to Thoroughgood Elementary, Independence Middle and Princess Anne High; confirm zoning by address. Nearly all of the neighborhood is outside any hurricane evacuation zone, none of the recent sales sat in a FEMA high-risk flood zone, and none was inside a Navy jet-noise contour. One recent sale was lakefront with a dock.
Thoroughgood trades on lot size and condition. With no association there are no dues, and the half-acre lots are the draw; many houses have been expanded or rebuilt over the decades, so a 1960 ranch and a 2020 rebuild can sit on the same street at very different prices.
