About Captain John Smith Elementary School
Captain John Smith Elementary School opened for the 1967-68 school year and is part of Hampton City Public Schools in Hampton, Virginia. It is named for Captain John Smith, the English soldier, explorer, and author who helped establish the Jamestown colony, the first permanent English settlement in America, in 1607. The school serves students in grades PK through 5 and its mascot is the Shark.
