About John B. Dey Elementary School
John B. Dey Elementary School opened in September 1956 on fourteen acres of land along North Great Neck Road, purchased from the James Farm by the Princess Anne County School Board. In its first year the building housed grades five through seven to relieve overcrowding at Little Creek Elementary, and in 1957 it became a full elementary school serving grades one through seven. The school was named for John B. Dey, a local farmer and community leader who chaired the Princess Anne County School Board from 1940 to 1957. The building was expanded in 1960 and 1995 and later underwent a major expansion and renovation.
The school sits in the Great Neck area of northern Virginia Beach and is part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools. It serves pre-kindergarten through grade 5 and, per NCES, is classified in a large-city locale. Enrollment is roughly 744 students.
