About Mount Vernon Elementary School
Mount Vernon Elementary School opened in October 1978 in Yorktown, Virginia, originally serving grades 1-6, with its administrative office completed in January 1979. The building was initially constructed without a cafeteria; students were served from a small room known as a scullery, with food cooked at a neighboring school and transported in warming bins, and ate in their classrooms. A second classroom wing was added in 1987. The school is part of York County Public Schools and today serves students in prekindergarten through grade 5.
