About Phoebus High School

Phoebus High School opened in 1975 as the newest high school in the City of Hampton, Virginia, and is part of Hampton City Schools. It takes its name from the former independent town of Phoebus, which was annexed into Hampton, and it serves the surrounding Phoebus community at 100 Ireland Street. The building was originally designed on an open-concept plan with few permanent interior walls; later renovations added interior walls and updated the gymnasium, theater, and main entrance.

The school's mascot is the Phantoms, adopted by its first graduating class, and its colors are blue and gold. Phoebus competes in the Virginia High School League and is best known statewide for its football program, which won the VHSL Class 4 state championship in 2024 and has captured numerous state titles across multiple classifications over the program's history.
