About Jane H. Bryan Elementary School
Jane H. Bryan Elementary School is a Pre-K through grade 5 public school in the Phoebus area of Hampton, Virginia, operated by Hampton City Public Schools. It is named for Jane Hamilton Bryan (1864-1946), an educator born in Liverpool, England, who was educated in England and Germany before settling in Phoebus, then a separate town. After running a kindergarten and primary school from her home, she joined the public schools in 1902 and taught primary grades for 36 years. The school was dedicated in her honor on November 13, 1955.
The school sits at 1021 N. Mallory Street in the historic Phoebus neighborhood of eastern Hampton, near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. It is a Title I school whose mascot is the Patriots and whose motto is "Success is Still Our Story." As of the 2024-2025 school year it enrolled 367 students and was Fully Accredited by the Virginia Department of Education for 2025-2026.
