About Seatack Elementary an Achievable Dream Academy

Seatack Elementary an Achievable Dream Academy serves students in grades PK through 5 in the Seatack neighborhood of Virginia Beach, one of the oldest African American communities in the southern part of the city, with roots predating the Civil War. In the early 1900s, residents of Seatack organized formal schooling for their children, initially using space donated by Mount Olive Baptist Church. A permanent, consolidated school building was constructed in 1952 on land purchased through community fundraising, making it the first consolidated elementary school for African American students in what was then Princess Anne County.

The school was among the last in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools system to be fully integrated, during the 1971-1972 school year. A new building opened for the 1999-2000 school year, and in 2000 Seatack became the first VBCPS elementary school to adopt year-round scheduling. In July 2014 it joined the An Achievable Dream Academy program. The campus is located at 912 S Birdneck Road, near the Birdneck Road corridor in the eastern part of Virginia Beach.
