Lake Shores is a late-1950s neighborhood in the Bayside part of Virginia Beach, ZIP 23455, near Lake Smith off Independence Boulevard. The homes that closed in the last two years were built between 1958 and 1961 at the core, with a few later additions, and most of them are single-story ranches: 19 of 27 were one story. Lots are generous for the city, about a third of an acre at the median, with mature trees that the newer subdivisions cannot match. Twenty-two of the recent sales were detached houses and five were condos, which gives the neighborhood a small attached market alongside the ranches.

Lake Shores is quiet and close to the bay side of the city: Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek is about two miles away, Chic's Beach and the Shore Drive restaurants are a short drive, and the Independence Boulevard shops handle errands. Recent sales were zoned to Shelton Park Elementary, Independence Middle and Bayside High; confirm zoning by address. Most of the neighborhood is outside any evacuation zone, with some streets in Zone B or C. Two of the 27 recent sales sat in a FEMA high-risk flood zone, so check the flood tile on any specific listing. No recent sale was inside a Navy jet-noise contour.

Lake Shores is a settled area. Its first subdivision dates to the 1950s zoning era, and most of it was built through the 1960s. So its housing is mostly mid-century.
