About Kempsville High School

Kempsville High School is a comprehensive public high school serving grades 9-12 in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools division. The school first opened in 1924; the present building, which opened in 1966, is the third structure to carry the Kempsville High name. Between 1959 and 1966 area students attended Princess Anne High School before Kempsville reopened at its current location.

The campus sits at 5194 Chief Trail in the Kempsville area of western Virginia Beach, roughly one mile south of Interstate 264. As of the 2024-2025 school year it enrolled just over 2,000 students, making it one of the larger high schools in the Virginia Beach division.
