About Salem High School

Salem High School opened on September 5, 1989, on a roughly 50-acre site in the Salem/Kempsville area of southeastern Virginia Beach, Virginia, receiving a capacity enrollment of just over 2,000 students in its first year. It is one of eleven comprehensive high schools operated by Virginia Beach City Public Schools and serves grades 9 through 12. The school's team name is the SunDevils and its motto is "Superbia et Excellentia" (Pride and Excellence).

In 2004 the division's Visual and Performing Arts Academy became integrated into the school as one of Virginia Beach's academy programs. The campus sits along Sundevil Drive in a residential section of the city inland from the oceanfront.
