About Old Donation School
Old Donation School (ODS) is a centralized, full-time gifted school in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools division, serving identified gifted students in grades two through eight. The present school was created in 2014 through the merger of Kemps Landing Magnet School (opened September 1995 for gifted middle-grades students) and the Old Donation Center (established after a March 17, 1998 Virginia Beach School Board vote to create a single-site gifted elementary school). Admission is application-based and requires students to meet Virginia Beach City Public Schools' criteria for gifted identification. The school houses a general intellectual aptitude program along with gifted dance and gifted visual arts programs.
The school occupies a roughly 13-acre site at 4633 Honeygrove Road in the northern part of Virginia Beach, near the Bayside/Independence Boulevard corridor. Its current facility, a LEED Gold-certified building of about 225,785 square feet organized around a central commons with separate elementary and middle-school academic wings, was completed in April 2017. NCES classifies the location as a large-city locale.
