About Shelton Park Elementary School
Shelton Park Elementary School opened in 1954 on a 12-acre site donated by the Shelton family, at a construction cost of $475,000. Its first principal was Margaret M. Fischer, and in its first year the school enrolled 721 students in grades one through seven. A west wing adding 11 classrooms was completed in 1961, and a major addition and renovation, budgeted at $7,359,889, was finished in January 2001.
The school is located at 1700 Shelton Road in the northern part of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools. It serves students in grades PK through 5 and is classified by the federal government as being in a large-city locale.
