About Trantwood Elementary School

Trantwood Elementary School opened in 1963 to serve the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach, the same year Princess Anne County merged with the City of Virginia Beach. It was built on land the Trant family had purchased in 1930 and operated as a dairy and Black Angus beef cattle farm until the tract was sold to the Virginia Beach School Board in 1960 for construction of the school.

The school has expanded over the decades: an air-conditioned annex was added in 1969, the full building was air-conditioned by 1987, and a gymnasium was constructed in 1991. It is part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and serves students in grades PK through 5 at 2344 Inlynnview Road in the residential Great Neck area of northern Virginia Beach.
