About Parkway Elementary School

Parkway Elementary School opened in September 1987 in the Green Run area of Virginia Beach, with James Oglesby as its first principal. The building was constructed at a cost of about $3.47 million and spans roughly 67,567 square feet on a fifteen-acre site. When it opened it served grades K-6; today it serves pre-kindergarten through grade 5 as part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

The school's mascot began as the Patriots and was changed to the Panthers in 2001. Parkway is a Title I school and was recognized as a 2021 Nationally Distinguished Title I School. It sits at 4180 O'Hare Drive in the residential Green Run section of southern Virginia Beach.
