Malibu Elementary School opened in September 1962, initially operating out of Plaza Elementary with eleven half-day classes while its own building was completed. Students first occupied the current building at 3632 Edinburgh Drive in January 1963, with Ruth J. Bridges serving as the school's first principal. It is part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and serves grades PK through 5.
