Indian Lakes Elementary School officially opened on September 4, 1979, in the Indian Lakes neighborhood of Virginia Beach, Virginia. It began with a student population of 1,086 in grades one through six under its first principal, Peggy Bryson.

Today the school is part of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade 5 at 1240 Homestead Drive. Its mascot is the Thunderbird.
