About Knollwood Meadows Elementary School
The school at 826 Moyer Rd in the Denbigh area of Newport News, Virginia, was formerly named R.O. Nelson Elementary School after Robert Oliver Nelson (1899-1970), an educator who served as superintendent of Newport News schools from 1946 to 1965. In 2021 the Newport News School Board voted to rename several schools whose names it determined did not reflect its values of inclusion and diversity, and the school was renamed Knollwood Meadows Elementary School after the surrounding neighborhood.
Knollwood Meadows Elementary is one of roughly 30 elementary schools in Newport News City Public Schools.
