About An Achievable Dream Middle/High School

An Achievable Dream Middle & High School is a public school in Newport News, Virginia, serving students in grades 6-12 as part of Newport News City Public Schools. It grew out of An Achievable Dream, Inc., a public-private partnership founded in 1992 by businessman Walter S. Segaloff, which first operated as An Achievable Dream Academy (a K-5/elementary program). In 2007 the program expanded to secondary grades; the former Briarfield Elementary School building was closed and renovated to house the middle and high school, which opened for grades 6-12.

The school occupies the campus at 5720 Marshall Avenue in Newport News' Southeast Community, a midsize-city setting. It emphasizes a 'Social, Academic, and Moral' education model with an extended school day, small classes, and community and business partnerships. The student body is predominantly Black, and roughly two-thirds of students are economically disadvantaged.
