About Homer L. Hines Middle School

Homer L. Hines Middle School is a public middle school (grades 6-8) in the Newport News City Public Schools division, located at 561 McLawhorne Drive in Newport News, Virginia. The school operated previously as Carver Intermediate School and was renamed by the School Board in 1979 to honor Homer Leroy Hines (1912-1984), a longtime mathematics and science teacher and principal of the former Carver high and elementary schools who later served as the division's federal project director before retiring in 1977.

The school sits in a residential area of the Menchville/Denbigh section of northern Newport News on the Virginia Peninsula. Its teams and student body carry the Spartans identity.
