About George J. McIntosh Elementary School

George J. McIntosh Elementary School opened in 1976 in the Denbigh section of Newport News, Virginia, and is part of Newport News City Public Schools. It serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade 5 at 185 Richneck Road. The school is named for George James McIntosh (1914-2005), who served as principal of Newport News High School from 1948 to 1958 and as superintendent of the city's schools from 1965 to 1974, a period that included the court-ordered desegregation of the division.
