About Menchville High School

Menchville High School opened in 1970 and is one of six comprehensive high schools operated by Newport News City Public Schools. Located at 275 Menchville Road, it draws students from the Gildersleeve, Hines, and Huntington middle schools and serves grades 9 through 12. The school's teams are known as the Monarchs, competing in purple and gold, and the campus hosts the division's Dual Language Immersion program.

The school sits in the Denbigh area of northern Newport News on the Virginia Peninsula. Over its history Menchville has built a notable athletics record, particularly in boys' track and field, and counts several NFL, MLB, and NBA players as well as an author and actors among its alumni.
