About Booker T. Washington Middle School
Booker T. Washington Middle School traces its origins to a school building erected in 1928 on Chestnut Avenue in Newport News, designed by architect Charles Robinson and originally operated as an elementary school for Black students. The building was expanded in 1935, 1952, and again in a major 2006 renovation that modernized the campus while retaining its historic character. Today the school operates as a Marine Science and Pre-Advanced Placement magnet, with science labs and an aquatics lab supported by partnerships with regional marine-science institutions.
