About Jacox Elementary

Jacox Elementary School opened in 1949 in Norfolk, Virginia, originally as Jacox Junior High School. It is named for Professor David Gilbert Jacox (born 1870 in Perquimans County, North Carolina), an educator, attorney, and minister who moved to Norfolk as a child and later served as a school principal and organized the first library at Norfolk Mission College, now Norfolk State University. The 32-room building was constructed at his request to the local School Board and named in his honor.
