About Sherwood Forest Elementary

Sherwood Forest Elementary School was completed and opened in September 1957 at a cost of $531,000. It was originally built with 24 classrooms designed for about 720 pupils and initially served grades 1-7, though early enrollment exceeded 900 students. In 1968 seventh graders were moved to Norview Junior High, and in 1970, with citywide integration, Sherwood Forest was paired with Titus Elementary and reconfigured to serve younger grades. A ten-room annex was added in 1988, and the building received capital improvements, including an auditorium renovation and technology upgrades, in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The school is part of Norfolk City Public Schools and sits on Sherwood Forest Lane in the northern part of Norfolk, Virginia, near the Norview area between Norfolk International Airport and Interstate 64. It currently serves students in grades PK-5 and remains fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education.
