About Norview High School

Norview High School is a public high school in the Norview section of Norfolk, Virginia, part of Norfolk City Public Schools. It traces its origins to the early 1920s and became part of the Norfolk city system after the Norview area was annexed. On February 2, 1959, Norview admitted several members of the 'Norfolk 17,' the group of African American students who were the first to integrate white public schools in Virginia following the Massive Resistance era.

The current campus at 6501 Chesapeake Boulevard opened in 2004, replacing an earlier building on Middleton Place whose cornerstone was laid in 1952. The school's mascot, the Pilots, is unusual among American high schools and is said to originate with an early principal who was an amateur aviator flying at a nearby airfield. School colors are royal blue and white.
