About Coleman Place Elementary School

Coleman Place Elementary School opened on January 25, 1925, when the area was still part of Norfolk County, and was named for the Coleman Place section of the county in which it stood. The original two-story building housed roughly 130 students in eight classrooms, with additions following in 1945 and a library in 1946. The school became part of Norfolk City Public Schools in 1955 following the city's annexation of the surrounding territory. A new $20 million, two-story building opened in 2007 under Principal Dr. Callie Richardson, designed to accommodate approximately 800 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
