About Indian River Middle School
Indian River Middle School is a public middle school in the Indian River area of Chesapeake, Virginia, operated by Chesapeake City Public Schools. It serves students in grades 6 through 8 and is located at 2300 Old Greenbrier Road. The school occupies the building that originally opened in 1967 as the first Indian River High School; when the high school moved to a new facility on Braves Trail in 1972, the Old Greenbrier Road building was converted to Indian River Middle School.
The school sits in an established residential section of southern Chesapeake near the Virginia Beach line. Like the neighboring Indian River High School, its athletic teams are known as the Braves. As of the 2024-2025 school year it enrolled roughly 740 students and was rated Fully Accredited by the Virginia Department of Education.
