About Great Bridge High School
Great Bridge High School traces its origins to 1907, when a school first opened in the Great Bridge area of what is now Chesapeake, Virginia, initially serving grades 1 through 12. A larger building opened in 1924, and the school relocated in 1954. The current campus at 301 Hanbury Road West opened in 1983, first accommodating grades 10 through 12 to relieve overcrowding and later expanding to serve grades 9 through 12.
The school is part of Chesapeake City Public Schools and is located in the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake in southeastern Virginia. Its athletic teams, the Wildcats, compete in the Virginia High School League; the girls' field hockey program has been a notable contributor to the school's competitive history, winning state championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
