About Fostering Innovation And Relevance Through STEM And Trades

The College and Career Academy at Pruden is a shared-time career and technical education (CTE) center in Suffolk, Virginia. Founded in 1970 as the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology, it serves juniors and seniors from Suffolk City Public Schools high schools (Lakeland, Nansemond River, and King's Fork) as well as students from surrounding areas, offering programs in fields such as automotive technology, welding, cosmetology, culinary arts, health and emergency medical services, cybersecurity, and construction trades. It also provides adult and continuing education.

The center hosts FIRST (Fostering Innovation and Relevance Through STEM and Trades), a state-designated Governor's STEM Academy that integrates STEM instruction with industrial trades, health sciences, automotive, information technology, and human-services career pathways. Partners include Suffolk Economic Development, Paul D. Camp Community College, Old Dominion University, and the Hampton Roads Research Partnership. The campus sits along Pruden Boulevard (US Route 460) on the western side of Suffolk, an area NCES classifies as rural fringe.
