Why this home stands out

What sets 1610 Shiloh Place apart is the combination of a pre-war footprint with four true bedrooms — rare for a home this size and era — and an almost unbeatable position between two major installations. Whether you're weighing Newport News homes for sale for the commute math or the neighborhood feel, the nine-minute drive to NSA Hampton Roads and ten-minute run to NSA Northwest Annex make the daily calculus unusually simple.

STUART GARDENS and the Newport News real estate market

Shiloh Place sits in the East End of Newport News, one of the city's oldest and most established residential corridors. The streets here follow a classic grid, lined with early-twentieth-century homes that give the area a grounded, lived-in character you don't find in newer subdivisions. Newport News itself stretches from the James River waterfront all the way north to York County, and the city's identity is shaped by its deep ties to the U.S. Navy, Huntington Ingalls Industries, and a maritime heritage that goes back generations. The East End puts you close to the city's working core — government offices, community services, and the kind of neighborhood infrastructure that keeps daily life moving without a long drive. Families comparing homes for sale in Newport News often find that this part of the city punches above its weight for convenience and accessibility, even as newer corridors get more attention.

What's nearby

Day-to-day errands are genuinely walkable from 1610 Shiloh Place. New York Pizza / Day & Night Market is just 0.2 miles away and covers both a quick grocery run and a casual meal. Newport News Market and F & S Supermarket are each about half a mile out, giving you real options for weekly shopping. Cantonese Express and Pearlie's Restaurant are both within 0.5 miles when you want a sit-down dinner. For your morning coffee, East End Cafe is 0.6 miles away, with a 7-Eleven and McDonald's just a bit farther at 0.7 miles. Green space is close, too — Marshall-Ridley park is 0.5 miles out, and both Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Plaza and Anderson Park North are within 0.6 miles.

For different buyers

For military families relocating

Nine minutes to NSA Hampton Roads and ten minutes to NSA Northwest Annex — that's the headline for military families evaluating 1610 Shiloh Place. A VA loan can make a four-bedroom home in this price band very accessible, and the short commute windows mean more time at home between duty days. It's the kind of location that holds its value across multiple PCS cycles.

For first-time buyers

Four bedrooms and two baths in a 1940-built home gives first-time buyers real space to grow into — without the premium of new construction. The walkable grocery and dining options keep car dependency low, and the proximity to two military installations means a broad pool of future buyers when life eventually calls for a move. Among homes for sale in 23607, this address offers a lot of house for the footprint.
