About York High School
York High School opened in 1954 as the first high school in York County, Virginia, and for years served students across the entire county before Tabb High School (1972) and Bruton High School (1976) opened to relieve enrollment. The school originally served grades 6-12; it desegregated in the late 1960s. Today it is one of the high schools in the York County School Division and enrolls roughly 950 students in grades 9-12.
The campus sits at 9300 George Washington Memorial Highway (U.S. Route 17) in York County, about three miles south of Yorktown, with a Yorktown (23692) postal address. Athletic teams compete as the Falcons in silver and blue and field close to 20 varsity sports.
