About Douglass Park Elementary School
Douglass Park has served the Portsmouth-area community for generations. In September 1946 the Norfolk County School Board opened a Douglass Park school as an official high school serving all grade levels through the twelfth grade, offering an extended curriculum that included agricultural education, auto mechanics and brick masonry. The present Douglass Park Elementary School building was constructed in the 1960s on the same site as that earlier school.
In the 1993-94 school year the campus became home to Portsmouth's first elementary mathematics, science and technology magnet program, and in 2001-2002 the building underwent renovations that added classrooms, a new library, a multipurpose room, air conditioning and updated technology. Today it is part of Portsmouth City Public Schools, serving grades K-6 at 34 Grand Street in the 23701 ZIP code of Portsmouth, Virginia.
