About Poquoson High School
Poquoson High School traces its origins to 1910, when the first school building — a two-story wooden structure — was constructed in what was then a rural fishing and farming community on the Poquoson peninsula. The school moved to a brick building in 1932 and relocated to its current campus at 51 Odd Road in 1977. The growth of nearby Langley Air Force Base and NASA Langley Research Center drove population and enrollment increases that contributed to Poquoson's incorporation as an independent city in 1975.
The school is the sole high school in the small Poquoson City Public Schools division, serving grades 9-12 in a suburban setting on the lower Virginia Peninsula in the Hampton Roads region. It is known for a long-running wrestling program and a strong baseball tradition.
